So the game - and the promotional materials - warn me against killing. I'm in the prologue, the warehouse : is there no way to open the door and leave without getting into combat? And will killing these thugs not affect my "karma" in the game?

I'm not sure what the game expects me to do here. I'm about five minutes in and hit this red flag! . . .
