Hi, a few questions about the VtmB patch that ships with GOG's copy:
1. Which version is installed by default? Just the patch or are the restoration components also installed?
2. Is it possible to safely upgrade the patch by downloading it from ModDB and installing it?

1. The GOG version only includes the basic patch with fixes and the original game with no content fixes at all.
2. You can download the full Unofficial Patch and install it over the GOG version. But start a new game then!

Just one more thing you should be aware of: If you use Galaxy, disable auto update for Bloodlines. Else Galaxy will revert your game to the patch version that comes with GoG and that will destroy your savegame if you have used a newer version of the patch.

The last time I played Masquerade on GOG was a few years ago with an older version of the basic patch. Do you know if they are planning up to update the base patch with all of the recent fixes you implemented?

As far as I know they are already on a very recent patch.
