Yesterday it was working just fine. Now for some reason, it refuses to start. Whenever I try to launch it, screen goes black then reverts back to Windows10. I tried ton uninstall and reinstall, to no avail.

The only way I got it to run was by adding "-window" to the shortcut path, but then it only runs in a tiny window, despite trying to force 1920x1080 with dgvoodoo. I have no idea why it suddenly acts like this considering that yesterday, it worked perfectly fine in full screen and with the resolution I wanted.

Any help?
Bumping this thread, I have this exact same problem. I'm still looking for a fix but if somebody could help us it would be much appreciated!
I have the same problem.

Running the game just means seeing a black screen then nothing.
Using the -window command just shows a tiny window.

Also, when using the -window, the intro movies are squeezed and only take up the left half of the tiny window.
Also, the intros get a purple hue.

Menu is fine (tiny).

Try running it as admin.
I wonder if OP is running the game on a laptop. VtM:R works perfectly on my Win10 desktop.
Although it has happened many times that many games which run flawlessly on my desktop refuse to work on my laptop. Probably related to conflicts with Intel HD Graphics and laptop hardware.
I have a similar problem too.

Upgraded to Windows 11 and the game kind of starts and shows up in the taskbar then disappears.

Can someone else confirm the issue on their Windows 11 system?

Edit as of 20.10.2021:
After checking the Disable fullscreen optimisations box in the properties of Vampire.exe, the game runs again absolutely fine.

Bumping this because I'm having the same exact issue with Windows 10. Black screen, acts like it's processing something for about 3 seconds, then it exits back out.
I patially solved.

1) Add "-window" to start file (es:"C:\Games\Vampire The Masquerade - Redemption\Vampire.exe" -window).

2) edit masquerade.ini in main folder
screenWidth=1920
screenHeight=1080
screenDepth=32

3) donwload and install widescreen fix

___www.dropbox.com/s/salbfqyfz8hlyu1/VTMR%20Widescreen%20%282015.05.05%29.rar?dl=0

The movies are small, with wrong colors in the upper right, the menu has graphical problems.

But the game works.

also works with oprional:

1a) Neural redemption
___www.nexusmods.com/vampireredemption/mods/2?tab=description

and

3a) italian translation

sorry for my bad enlgish.

I have some.

1st - Use DGVoodoo, otherwise the game will crash.
2nd - If using mods, make sure there are no conflicts with the game files
Dark places skin pack, for example, makes the single player crash.

Hi, thanks for your help. I was able to use DGVoodoo and get the game to run. However, there are issues with the graphics - lots of the skins, colours, designs are missing - i.e blank walls, the characters are monotone mannequins, rather than rendered with design.
I've got the same problem. If I start the game the normal way it turns the display black and returns to desktop a few seconds later. If I use dgVodoo the game starts but the main menu is completely broken! If I start a new game You see a lot of missing textures and the lighting is completely broken.

I'm running Win10 desktop with Ryzen 5 3000 and a Vega 56

Any advice would be much apreciated!

I have found a way to run the game on a laptop with WIn11. I ticked the boxes in the Vampire.exe properties:
- Launch the program in WinXP compatibility mode
- Turn off the fullscreen optimization
- Use 640x480 screen resolution
- Launch the program as an administrator

I also downloaded this https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/1470-vampire-the-masquerade-redemption-fov-fix/ and replaced the .exe with a 16:9 file. Not sure if it is needed though.

Anyways, the game runs perfectly now, albeit in a low res. But that's ok for me.
