I may have fixed the issue? I unistalled again since it has been a few updates, then I even went into regedit/registery and deleted the Troika folder after looking through the files there. Along with any other VTB folders I could find in GOG folders and Norton to clean temporary files.

After restarting my PC and reinstalling the game, I booted the game from inside Galaxy and the same gray loading screen appeared except this time the game fully loaded afterwards.

My save files worked as well! Hopefully, this stays fixed.

Hello!

Windows 10 updated and my game is at 9.7 patch version. Whenever I attempt to boot the game up windows game mode activates with a grey screen that then blinks away into a small red window titled "engine error" with the message "unable to set mode".

Is this an issue of not being in patch 10.0 or 9.8 thus being unable to use my current saves. So far, this issue is only happening with Bloodlines.

Anyone know of a solution? Please and thank you!

My guess is that you can fix it with the dll you can find in the patch extras of version 10.0

If you want to keep your saves from patch 9.8 you have two options:
-just install the patch (base and extras) in a temp directory and copy what you need to your bloodlines folder.
or
-rename your current /bloodlines/unofficial_patch directory to something like .../up98, open the properties of the shortcut and change the -game part accordingly. Then rename the shortcut to patch98 (or whatever you like). Now you can install the new version as usual, including the extras. And then you have the old version for your current games and you can start a new character with patch 10.0.

Hi, sorry for the late reply! I might be doing it wrong but I don't think this solution worked for me. I didn't get too far so might just have to cut my loses and unistall/update to the lastest patch without my saves.

Not to necro a post, but I still have this issue if anyone has any solutions?
