The game is fine but the FMV sequences are all jittery. Sound isn't a problem but the image jumps, kind of like it takes 2 frames forward then 1 back. Any idea what the problem is?
I'm running Win7 Pro 64.

With Compatibility set to Win XP SP2 with admin rights it runs great for me on Win 7 x64.
Weird about the FMVs since they just used Bink video for compression. For me the game would crash after the opening cutscene without those settings applied - might work for your problem as well.
The game doesn't crash at all running default settings. Already tried under XP compatibility.with no joy. Will grab the Bink player and see if the videos work through that.
EDIT: Works fine through the Bink player so must be something in the game's player that's at fault. Weird.

I would maybe try reinstalling the latest directx redistributable.
Then try it with killing the GUI (explorer.exe).
This batch file will task kill explorer.exe and then relaunch it after the game is exited.
taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
start /w Vampire.exe
pause
start explorer.exe
Try it this way with those compatibility settings on Vampire.exe (WinXP SP2, run as admin).

Viking: Thanks for the help but still no joy.

Do you have K-Lite Codec Pack installed?
If so, try to include the game .exe file under "dont' use ffdshow" settings.
Just guessing here...I had this problem with Gorky17 and that solved it.
Worth a shot, but no joy. Thanks anyway.
Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you, but I can tell you that the problem is either with the old binkw32 dll file, or with the DirectDraw code it uses. Unfortunately Windows 7 doesn't work very well with DirectDraw (palette issues in Age of Empires being a good example), and this manifests itself in various ways.
Note that this issue seems to have nothing to do with multithreading - I created a proxy dll that completely serialized use of the binkw32 dll, and this didn't change things one iota.
I did a little searching and found that some people with jittery video in other games besides this one replaced the binkw32.dll and it fixed their issue. I searched my harddrive for that file and found many different versions from many different games. I tried each one until I found one that corrected my problem. It was the binkw32.dll from the Steam version of Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods. My video was a jittery mess and is now smooth as silk.

(Update:) I now have extremely smooth video.... but no sound. :(

Perhaps it isn't any coincidence that Bink & Stink rhyme...

I would still very much like a way to get the videos to play properly in this game with sound and smooth. Is there any way to possibly reencode the .bik videos to a newer more stable version of bink video that would work with the game on newer systems?

Try going into your windows folder and run a search for directdraw. See if amd64 and x86 folders pop in anywhere. Not sure if your files could be missing for directdraw.
c:\windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-directx-directdraw_31bf3856ad364e35_6.2.9200.16384_none_01b0aecd916803 7e

contains 2 files. ddraw.dll and ddrawex.dll

c:\windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-directx-directdraw_31bf3856ad364e35_6.2.9200.16384_none_5dcf4a5149c5 74b4

has 2 files with the same names as the one's above, but they are different sizes than their counterparts.
So what kind of vid card are you using? Some new cards tend to have removed DX7 features from their drivers... at least when you use the newest driver releases. It's kind of funny because i use a very new Radeon HD 7850 running in twins (XFire). I'm also using the newest 13.6 beta drivers and still have no issues with directdraw nor DX7. I have other kinds of issues, but that has nothing to do with Redemption or this topic.

I'd try playing around with vid card drivers if you can. You might even try playing with the various sound port options in Redemption. It will default to Miles 2d in the Options/Sound config. There should be a number of options that include Direct3d sound and such. Could experiment and see if it's related the current sound port.

Other than that, many of us are at a loss here.

It's an AMD Radeon 6530D running 13.4. I hope to upgrade soon when I can.
I don't think it's the sound because if I run the game with the -window switch in the shortcut applied, it shows the videos in the upper left corner of my screen with scrambled rainbow colors but plays the sound without any problems or skipping at all. So, that tends to make me believe it more likely related to the video though I could be wrong too.
I've even downloaded the RAD Video Tools (available here: www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm) and have tried reencoding the .bik files in different formats and with different versions of bink32w.dll but they always have some problem or another. I just hope that maybe some day someone else can figure it out and post a solution here eventually for this problem. I know I'd be grateful if I could get this classic running 100% again.
Here's my silver bullet. I spent days finding it. Running Windows 8 on core i7. No need to set high performance, use bcdedit for changing timers, or any of those things. Just backup your old binkw32.dll in redemption folder and copy the one into that folder from the link below. Works flawlessly for both video and audio on my machine. Enjoy!

I apologize for using a picture for the link. GOG won't let me post it normally for some odd reason.

BTW: I am running the standard CD ISO mounts available almost everywhere in case that matters.
