I run VtM:R on windows XP. THe game never autosaves. I'm in the monastery and i still have the autosave from the beggining of the game. I have to go back to library to save.
This question / problem has been solved by Namurimage
It should autosave after loading a new area and when using waypoints. Have you tried reinstalling it?
This sounds like the overwriting save games problem.

Check this thread.

Well, i'm using windows xp, i am an administrator, and there IS a Savegames subfolder present in VtM:R folder so this doesn't seem to be the same problem. I'll try reinstalling.

There are folks on that thread who were having the overwriting saves game problem on XP.

Look into the 'indexing the folder' in question workaround.

Just put the admin rights to vampire.exe and save / autosave will work properly.

well the solution to my problem was found many months ago as marked two posts earlier, and it was about indexing service, not being an administrator, but thanks anyway.
