I have still not installed it, and i was wondering, whether or not the multiplayer works... I remember having lots of fan with other people online back in the day, but what about here and now?

Only the LAN works - the multiplayer servers have shut down long ago. But there is a workaround. It's called Tunngle - a VPN program that allows users to connect to each other as a virtual network to simulate a LAN connection.
