Hi,

I've tried changing the display options both in the game (via settings) as well and in masquerade.ini and no matter what resolution I choose, nothing seems to change on screen. I've tried everything from 640x480 to 1920x1080 (which is what I want) with no visible difference. Am I missing something? Thanks.

Pajama: Hi,

Have you tried deleting the masquerade.ini file? It should create another when you launch again.
Thanks for your help. I've just tried that and when I start the game and go into display options and change them, the game acknowledges that they have been changed and tells me I need to restart the game, which I do but still I see no difference. I check the settings and it reports that I am on1920x1080 but the game still looks like it's running in 640x480 :(
Are you running the game as admin?
iirc, VtM:R is one of those games that doesn't handle Window's UAC too well. I remember not being able to save when not running it as admin.
When you fired the game back up, were you in the convent? The videos will all run in 640 x 480 regardless of the settings. Were you actually in gameplay when you saw no difference?
Hi,

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I am running the game as administrator (and have UAC turned off) and I played through until I left the convent and half way through the mines but still couldn't see any change. I'm beginning to think I'll have to get used to playing it in 640x480 :( I will give it one more go though of deleting the .ini file in case it decides to work. Fingers crossed, you never know! :)
Well, I've finally sussed out what the trouble was. I dropped the res down to 1024x760 and the game now looks a whole lot better and no more cut off heads in cut scenes! Although my screen res is1920x1080 and the game gave me the option of choosing that res it really didn't want to play nice. Anyway, I thought I'd place my solution here in case anyone else in the future runs into the same problem.
Having recently grappled with many issues getting this great game to display, sound, and play correctly, I thought I would share some of my experiences.

1. I found a complete fix for the bink cutscene stuttering problem (see related forum).

2. I experimented with every video resolution both on my 1920x1080 HD laptop display as well as on my DLP projector.

A. The cutscenes play in 720x480. My DLP projector confirmed this handily.

B. Depending upon the SCALING you have set in your graphics options in Windows for your video card, you will experience different results. Set the scaling to "do not scale", "maintain ratio", or the like. This can be under options such as "Panel Fit", "Display Scaling", etc.

C. If you choose a very high resolution, you will likely get terrible results because the games graphics will simply be scaled to what is most "appropriate" given your choice of resolution, graphics settings, and available resources. Setting the game to a 4x3 resolution (1024x768, 800x600, 640x480) will produce the best looking results. Using a 16x9 or a non-standard resolution will result in questionable video and potentially missing video, such as decapitated characters.

Hope this helps spread some light... er darkness.
I think the problem is that you are using a TV for a monitor. I think the games only supports 4:3 aspect ratios not 16:9 that most modern tv uses. I have a 16:9 27" monitor, not a tv, and the game will only let me select 4:3 aspect ratios. The highest of which my monitor supports is 1920x1440. That's what I run the game at with no problem.

sagespath - thanks for your tips, it did help spread some light :)

kyonn - no I'm using a monitor albeit a widescreen one. I've set the res to 1024x768 and it now runs and looks fine.
