Hello everyone, as any other longtime fan of Bloodlines I was very happy about the release of a definitive version
(No DRM, included Patch, etc.)

Unfortunately I don't get to enjoy it right now, as the game refuses to even show the main menu.

The intro movies play fine but after the Troika Logo, the game is seemingly bugging out, repeating the main menu theme every two seconds and showing a black screen.

I played it on Windows 7 and 8.1 fine but it doesn't seem to play nice with Win 10.

I've already set the games executable `VAMPIRE.exe to run in the compatibility mode for XP SP 2 and also have it run with Admin privileges

Does anyone else have similar issues?

Thiev: How about windowed mode?
Doesn't seem to help much.

I changed a registry key to get it to run in Windowed mode.

But It's the same exact error.

Does it happen both with default and Legacy shortcuts?
I'll try to look into it, but I have only one Win10 machine at home and that might not be enough to replicate the problem ;)

Yes, it does. I just tested it same error. Repeating music and all.

Thank you very much in advance for trying though.

It's a Source game and there is a lot of cool stuff that can be applied through /cfg/autoexec.cfg ;)
If you're not scared of it you can try fiddling with it in the meantime
(for example disabling audio completely to test if problem might be there)

but always make a backup >.>
FWIW, it runs flawlessly in W10 on my machine:

AMD 8350
2 Nvidia GTX 760 in SLI
24 gig ram

Unfortunately, it runs on my notebook without hitch :(
So let's go through some basics:
- do you have any special software running in the background? (Raptr, NVExperience, EVGA Overlay etc - basically anything related to DirectX overlay / screen capturing)
if so, close ^ any of those and as much of unnecessary background applications as possible
Also to add to that - do you have one screen or more?

Runs fine here on Win10x64, build 14316. The only compatibility mode I have set is "run as admin"--everything else is standard for Win10 x64 (all boxes unchecked and blank.)

Bear in mind that the 9.5 Unofficial Patch updates many things to current hardware & software standards, so it shouldn't be necessary to setup compatibility modes as if you were trying to get the original 1.2 Bloodlines version to run on Win10...;)

AMD R9 380 4GB
AMD FX-8320e
8GB sys ram
No problems!
Nvmd fixed it... :)

(Don't you hate those people that figure out a solution to a problem and just write the above?)

But in all seriousness. I figured out what was wrong. So if anyone else has the same problem,
pthis might work for you.

It had nothing to do with resolution, number of screens or whatever.

The culprit was a setting in a Nvdia Inspector Profile I created 5 some odd years ago.
This was forcing 4x MSAA + 4x SGSS + a few other settings like Pre Rendered frames onto the application.

I just reset it and lo and behold. It works just fine.

Like @waltc said even setting the game to compatibility mode is not necessary anymore.

Thank you to everyone who responded.

Awesome news, and thanks for the fix details, always comes in useful to someone at some point.

Out of interest, do the driver profiles hang around then? I thought they were all reset when you install a new driver version?

Only if you force a clean install and most people just update the drivers.

For future reference:

when facing such problem an easiest way is to change .exe name to anything else (just adding an '_' wil do) and then try to run it. Any compatibilities / profiles won't be applied to the different filename and it might help to hunt down the culprit ;)

Nvidia Inspector allows you to export your entire profiles to one of two file formats.

After a clean install you simply import them back in.

Over the years I amassed well over 70 Profiles, and seemingly that now bit me in the ass. ;)

I only ever created two profiles. One was for Interstate '76 to limit the frame rate to 30 to fix physics, the other was was to enable Extension Limit for SiN to stop crashes. Other than that I've not bothered to make changes to the default profiles.
