Playing Bloodlines for the first time and the Prince wants me to secure the sarcophagus from the museum. He offered me a key but all my conversation choices were tings like "I don't need a key", "I have a better way" and "I'll just go through the front door"; so I don't actually have a museum key in my possession. When I talk to the taxi driver the map shows Santa Monica and Downtown only, the Museum is not an option. Is this a bug? Do I need a specific item, like the prince's museum key, before the taxi can take me there? Is there another way to get there?

If you are Nosferatu you should use the sewers, otherwise the cabbie will take you there. The keys are only used in the plus version of the patch as in the original game you entered from the roof.

How would I get there through the sewers? I'm not Nosferatu but I should still have a sewer option, correct? The problem is that when I try to use the cab there is no museum option available .
You can only use the sewers as a Nosferatu. If you don't get the museum on the cab map, maybe you still have to do something else. What exactly does the quest log say?
Check your key ring. Then the taxi driver. If nothing else works, check the hub transporting map down there in the sewers... While in the museum, remember to not kill anyone (you can be seen, you can incapacitate a target with disciplines like animalism ravens or dominate or dementation, but if you kill someone, no extra xp for you) and grab the museum fetish to trade with Pisha later. You need a gun to break the glass in that room, too.
I just finished my first playthrough yesterday, and from what I remember, the game "teleported" me on the roof once the conversation ended. But it's very cloudy in my head.

this guide says you should take the cab. http://www.ign.com/faqs/2010/vampire-the-masquerade-bloodlines-walkthrough-711280

Don't need a gun to break the glass; have never used one (and it alerts the guards).

How do you break glass??? About guards, though, they are oafs; if you do it quick, by the time they arrive on spot, you are long gone by then, already...

Okay, I just checked my quest log and the prince's museum quest wasn't even there just the museum quest from that Pasha character. I talked to the prince again and this time he told me that the car was waiting and now the taxi gives me the museum option. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, I didn't even think to check the quest log.

You can do it with any melee attack but you really need to move a lot for the weapon to hit correctly...

I'm a Gangrel so I did it the same way I solve all my problems, by punching my way through!

But Sweet Christmas is that basement level tricky! I got through it only by beating lots of guards to death. Now that I know what I'm up against I'll reload and try the stealthy non-violent approach. The raven swarms works great when I'm not back tracking because I'm lost.

Stevedog13: snip
Just go through toilets, climb the air vent, fall down on the security guard from above (he panics and leaves room), grab key, go left, climb air vent again, go basement, use ravens on first guard, bypass the cameras with one of three ways (shoot one and run away do same with all... go through quickly running... ravens on guard in room with manual and hack cameras)... And finally, the restricted area is the easiest. Only one guard and one hacking. Done that as a Gangrel. Gangrels CAN do stealth missions without killing. Brujahs CAN'T!
In my first playthrough I finished the museum as brujah without killing anyone.
I could sneak without problems to the lower levels.

In the area with the cameras, I just ran trough it while the guards shoot me.
I got a bit lost, but I simply followed the wall on my right side and collected everything I can.
(I did not have the quest to collect the treasure and I did not take it).
After 2 or 3 rounds through the level, I finally found the exit.
Those cops had tiny guns and they could hardly follow me.

I did the same thing on the ship.
Just run past every cop and ignore their shooting.
Often they act so stupid that you can find places where you can take cover and they cannot hit you until your health is recovered.

You can get by the cameras unseen by disabling them in the guard house (very tricky to be not seen) or by waiting until they are pointed away from you and then run underneath; repeat as needed. To me the Nossie way is the most fun.
