Some are good, and the ones that switch around priorities for starting talents can allow you to play some clans differently right out of the gate. With all histories, you should be able to deduce which ones have benefits that help your character build while sacrificing something you weren't going to use anyhow. "Anda Gangrel" for example gives you great bonuses while only making Animalism a little less attractive to invest in, and chances are that if you were looking to play a Gangrel you were going to make them tough, not psuedo casters anyhow.
I tend not to use any histories that came with the original game however because they are not thought through. I'm not a die hard World of Darkness fan but I feel many of them "histories" are nonsense, like "True Brujah" of which there should only be about 10 in the whole world and they are not with the Camarilla.
