Is there a list of controls/commands for this game?
My people simply stand around and I see no way to make them gather resources, or do anything else (other than build buildings).

This is clearly an "updated" version of Cultures series of games by Funatics.

Not that those were easy, but at least you could give commands directly.

It depends which tasks they aren't doing. Usually, the Vikings are idle when they don't have necessary resources. For example, a builder may refuse to work if he needs a plank but you either don't produce them or the sawmill is too far from the construction site where he is working. You can build couriers in order to solve this problem, but I wouldn't do it in the beginning of the game if I were you. A better idea may be to construct a building near another one, if it doesn't need a free space around it, like farms do.

Another problem is when you, for instance, have a woodcutter near a forest, but he is too lazy to go to the forest. A solution to this problem is to build a road from his hut to the forest. This will increase the range of his workplace.

I don't know of any other cases when my Vikings stands idly and do nothing.
