Tried using the in-game IRC client, but there are very few active people on the IRC channel (irc.uplinkcorp.net, channel #uplink).

Why are only 3 people of out of 20 actively talking? Why does the topic say "no one is here"?

It's a real IRC channel, and the people are real people. There's not a lot of activity anymore because the game is old.

The IRC isn't part of gameplay; it's basically just there for flavor.
