Hi.
I bought UT GoTY since my original CD copy version was acting up (choppy gameplay) + one of the CDs was getting a bit scratched, so I figured it was time to go GOG!
Alas, turns out there's three issues with the GOG version, though I've managed to fix two of them, but I figure devs here ought to have a look at them, so here goes:
1)
The max resolution available to me after install was 1280x800 which isn't really "optimal" these days and since the Unreal engine can handle higher res I tried to change it manually and succeeded:
I went into the game's folder--->"System folder"--->"Unreal Tournament config file" and under "[WinDrv.WindowsClient]" changed the following lines:
FullscreenViewportX=1280
FullscreenViewportY=800
to
FullscreenViewportX=1680
FullscreenViewportY=1050
and that fixed it, but point is I shouldn't have to do it that way...
One possible reason for this problem could be that the old version from my CDs had the same issue and that that version is still in the regedit thus affecting the install of the new GOG version(?)
2)
Sound was terrible, lots of static noise distorting the sound! I tried both High and Low quality and changing the number of channels all to no avail. I then tried disabling CrossFire and that fixed it - at first. I created a Profile in the Catalyst Control Center but next time I activated it and started up UT the problem was back. Now I've fixed it by loading another profile, disabling CrossFire, and starting up the game. Weird thing is the two profiles are identical save for CrossFire being enabled/disabled...
3)
This is an old issue also present in the original CDed version...
When I enable FSAA and Anisotropic Filtering (in D3D) small lines appear close to the mouse cursor + a white rim appears around the screen. There's also graphic distortion in the HUD area in the original CDed version but seems GOG has fixed that .
It's def not a biggie but still...
My system specs:
Win XP (SP3)
MSI K9A2 Platinum V2 (chipset drivers: "SBDrv. ver. 2.7")
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition @ 3.1GHz
4x1 GB Kingston HyperX PC2-8500 (obviously running @ 800MHz giving it's an X2 CPU)
2 x Sapphire Radeon 3870 fitted with aftermarket coolers. (tried UT with video cards overclocked and at stock clocks...)
WD VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS (150 GB)
Logitech G5 (new version) and newest SetPoint drivers.
Sound is the mobo built-in chip, Realtek ALC888/ALC888T, drivers are a few months old...
ASUS PG221 monitor
Pioneer DVR 216DSV DVD burner (SATA drive)
Standard M$ keyboard...
Additional software installed:
Latest ATI Catalyst (9-2_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_75974)
.NET 2.0
DirectX 9.0 (November 2008 version)
I haven't installed any of the additional mods available for UT...yet...I'ma get the Chaos mod + the UT Oldskool mod.
Guess that's all, feel free to ask question.
Thanks, and love the concept of GOG!

Hey, hope youre still around, thanks for the info on changing the max resolution and the sound corrections. I think that if you uninstall your unreal tournament goty install, run a program that scans the registry for invalid entries, and reinstall ut goty, you'll have a new, GOG-only version of ut goty installed. Do a registry scan often.
Regarding the anisotropic filtering thing, have you tried running ut goty in OpenGL mode, instead of Direct3D? In the original release of ut goty (and i think in the GOG release too), the openGL mode was experimental, but very stable and good, unlike the Direct3D mode, which was outdated and prone to failing. I used to get BSODs and ut goty hanging on me when I ran it in Direct3D, until i, while checking the game launcher, i switched to opengl mode and there was no more hanging. This was specially the case when alt-tabbing.
There's on top of that, a new opengl driver for ut goty. It's at this location:

I havent tried it myself, but ive heard that it's good, it's more much advanced than the original release one.
Hope this helps.
