When you install the game it will automatically enter the key for you without telling you.
As soon as you install it, you'll be able to play online
If you really want to see the key, it is located in regedit at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Unreal Technology/Installed Apps/UT2004/CDKey

Yes, you get a GOG generic key which installs itself. I've used it online (albeit only on the EU GOG server so far). However, if you really do want a unique key of your own you can submit a request to GOG support to ask for one as you are entitled to one. I did so and got my key within two days. All you have to do is replace the registry key with the one they send you.
