Unreal Tournament '99 Unofficial Multi Core Fix
This unofficial fix will add 3 new files to UT\System folder and special shortcut to your desktop. Nothing is overwritten or replaced.
Files added:
Process.exe
UT99.ico
UT99MultiCoreFix.bat
Process.exe is freeware by Beyond Logic @ http://www.beyondlogic.org
More information on the process.exe file can be found here:
http://www.beyondlogic.org/solutions/processutil/processutil.htm
UT99 icon by 3xhumed
UT99MultiCoreFix.bat by hip63
UT99MultiCoreFix.bat launches Unreal Tournament and then launchs process.exe to set processor affinty for Unreal Torunament to one processor to correct performances issues when running the game on Multi-Core systems. A shortcut to this file will be placed on your desktop and in the UT Start Menu Group.
Tested with original CD retail version of UT99 patched to 436 on Vista 64-bit.
It should work on the GOG.com version with no problems, just be sure to install to you UT main folder.
For Free Distribution Only!
Use this unofficial fix at your own risk!
Uninstaller included.

Can you tell me what this is for exactly? I just got UT GotY and it runs fine for me. I have a dual core processor and 64-bit Vista. I also have Unreal Gold and that runs fine too. What is this supposed to fix exactly?
Intel mutli core generally do not have this issue but many users with AMD multicore proccessors have problems running the game on multicores (even after applying amd timing hotfixes). Basically some AMD users (myself included) have game speed issues (too fast, to slow, stutters, ect.)
BAH!
This is a very lame technical issue.
UT99 used the cpu clock as a speed reference.
this is bad considering windows has its own "timer"
Multi core and single core AMD cpu's with "cool-n-quiet" will experience strange "omg its slow" and "omg this is insanely fast" issues with ut99.
infoz: amd cpu's change their speed based on the system load (if it doesn't need all the available cpu speed it'll slow down, if it needs more it speeds up) which is bad when running software that uses the cpu clock as a timer.
to fix: FOR athlon x2 users "google: amd dual core optimizer" for amd64 w/cool-n-quiet in your bios setup disable cool-n-quiet
Thanks, I'll try this on my copy of Unreal Gold.
This is the best fix for Multi Core/Speedstepping issues I've found for UT99:
http://coding.hanfling.de/launch/
Just grab the binary for UT under the Depreciated section. It gives you a new exe called CustomUnrealTournament to put in your System folder and run. It'll create a new CustomUnrealTournament.ini for itself that you can just copy your settings over from your original UT ini.
