RahaMies: I have a major problem here. After installing the patch DukeNico provided, the menu had extreme stuttering. Every time I switch to other option in the menus, the whole game freezes for a second or two.
My second problem is that either I don't know how, or it is impossibility to change the speed of game. It seems as if the game speed is locked at 200% or more, which makes it virtually unplayable for me.

Menu problem might be renderer related. For me the Unreal engine games always run best on OpenGL (after patches of course). Try changing renderer using the advanced options menu; Options->Advanced options. This will switch back to Windows and open a small window where you can change all game settings. Driver->GameRenderDevice chooses the renderer. You may need to restart the game as sometimes graphics go all wild when you use advanced options window.
For the second issue; when you start a new game go back to main menu by pressing ESC and then Game->Game options. You should now see the game speed option, set that to 100%.

i am sorry, but neither of those did help me. The game speed-option was already set on 100% and switching it to 50% did absolutely nothing. I was already using OpenGL, so I think I just have to reinstall the game and play it without texture mods or the patch.
When the game is apparently running too fast, it may be that your frame rate is too high.
My experience is that Unreal can't handle higher frame rates than 240, the surplus rendered frames are then speeding up the game, which can be very irregular.
My solution is to set a limit to the frame rate. You have two options to do this (I assume and strongly recommend you're using OpenGL with the 227.e patch). Change the below given parameters in the [OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice] section of Unreal.ini.
1) Enable vsync:
SwapInterval=1
This, of course, limits the frame rate to your monitor's refresh rate. This works fine, but with me it has the side effect of a lagging mouse.
2) Limit the frame rate directly by setting:
FrameRateLimit=120 (for example)
This works best for me. It also works with Unreal Tournament GOTY using the enhanced OpenGL renderer.
Hope this helps.
Regards, bj

Thanks a lot. This solved everything, but the stuttering in the menu... oh well, I'ts just a very small part of the game after all!

DukeNico: ...
Here's a texture database for those who want to give a second birth to this wonderful game...
...

So, I went to get the HRP, and there is no download link ?
I went through the entire site, and couldnt find a download link.
Anyone know how to get the HRP ?

Here you go, and browse the links at the left :)
Doh.
I am feeble.
Thanks.
Although, I could get the 4 texture packs, it mentions a single file download?
I couldnt find that one.

I'm not aware of a single file download, only the four packs. I downloaded the so-called "low end" packs but noticed no difference with the few "high end" individual textures I checked on their texture database.
Note that I've only used the S3TC on Unreal Tournament but the site does appear to suggest that both Unreal Gold and Unreal Tournament share some textures (identical in name but whether they differ slightly in look I don't know) and for that reason you may be able to use the UT S3TC downloads with Unreal Gold (the UT downloads even include a Langs file for Unreal Gold, not used by UT).
In any case, the message on the site's front page is worrying, so get those textures whilst you still can!
I'm downloading the hig end texture files from here ( http://www.unrealtexture.com/Unreal/Unreal.htm ) to test as soon as possible.

This patch is pretty great, and solves the mouse lag problem I and some others have been having with Unreal Gold. I personally don't care at all for the mission pack, so that's not a big loss for me.
Although, there doesn't seem to be any way to save progress in co-op mode, as I recall was possible in Unreal Gold. Does anyone know of way to do this?
I am the one that makes the high resolution(S3TC) textures, and i thought i post a few remarks.
First, you should not mix the S3TC textures between the games. The textures for Unreal can be used for:
- Unreal
- Unreal Gold
- Unreal Gold from the Unreal Anthology boxset
- Unreal Gold offered by GOG
- Unreal Gold offered by Valve.
And that already points out that Unreal and Unreal Gold regardless the source have the same textures and are netcompatible.
The textures for UT can be used for any version UT. So effectivelly dont use the Unreal(Gold) textures for UT, and vice versa, dont use the UT textures for Unreal(Gold) If you do, you wont be able to join servers online. So if you have UT go to the UT section to sdownload the textures, and if you have Unreal(Gold) stick to the Unreal section of the site. If you have both games, than you have to download everything per game.
Most people use the High End textures that contain 400% more detail than the Low End textures. And earlyer this year i started to release the Extreme End packages, and they contain 1600% more detail than the Low End versions. For Extreme End textures you need to have a 1024Mb videocard to run it. But to give an example, the Decayeds Extreme End package is a staggering 950 Mb big.
But you choose the S3TC textures depending your videocard:
- Low End = for 32 Mb, 64 Mb, 128 Mb videocards
- High End - for 128 Mb(You can try), 256 Mb, 512 Mb and higher videocards.
- Extreme End = for 512 Mb(you can try) 1024 Mb and higher videocards
If you never downloaded the S3TC textures before than you should download the MasterFiles, if you are looking for individual updates, than you can download the single files.
The textures for Unreal and Unreal Gold(any version) can be found here:
http://www.unrealtexture.com/Unreal/Website/Downloads/Textures/Textures.htm
The textures for UT(any version) can be found here:
http://www.unrealtexture.com/UT/Website/Downloads/Textures/Textures.htm
.
.
.
will i need "that" 463 or what number that patch is to play online ?????
Latest version is 227H (RC3):
http://oldunreal.com/
As of version 227G (RC2), Unreal Gold is supported.

Hi, gog support was not able to help me - so I thought maybe here are some wise guys to help me get this programm to work? I would like to know if this game indeed is running on Win7 .. it does not on my computer, with DIrectX diagnosis finding no problems. This sucks a lot.

Keeps quitting right after the start, sometimes spitting out crazy error messages like "General protection fault! History: UFire Texture::ConstantTimeTick <- UTExture::Tick <- (FireTexture NaliFX.flames1) <- ...."

Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601)
Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.110622-1506)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU 530 @ 2.93GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.9GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 3896MB RAM
Page File: 1547MB used, 6241MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled
DxDiag Version: 6.01.7601.17514 64bit Unicode

Thanks a lot for any helpful hints :-)
