Hello everyone.

I purchased UT:GOTY awhile ago from GOG after losing my own copy. Unfortunately I seem to have a problem with both UT:GOTY and my original copy of Unreal Gold. I am running Windows 7 x64. After a couple of minutes in game the camera will suddenly begin to start moving down slowly as if I was slowly moving the mouse down. This has no effect in menus. Joystick support has not been enabled. Has anyone seen this problem or have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Search for mouse on the Unreal forum and you find these:

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/unreal_series/mouse_acceleration_in_unreal
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/unreal_series/unreal_gold_problem_with_mouse

They mention using the unofficial patches and different renderers, turning on and off mouse smoothing, enhanced pointer precision in Windows, etc. As you've not given any system specs or attempted fixes this is all I can suggest.

Oh, and even if you have turned off joystick input, have you still got a joystick or gamepad connected to your machine? If so, unplug it and see if it makes a difference.

Unfortunately that is a no go. Tried installing the patch and trying the Direct3D 8/9 renderers included. Earlier I was also using a Direct3D 10 one. All with the same problems. I tried the changing the settings mentioned but sadly that also did not work. And I have no joysticks plugged in at the moment.

No idea what mouse you are using but there are two things I think you could try.

Firstly, what DPI setting does it have and can it be changed? I have the game and it works fine with my Sidewinder X3. That's running at 1000dpi at the moment, but I can switch it up to 2000dpi. Maybe if your mouse is using a very high DPI setting then it could affect the game? Try lowering it if you can.

Secondly, and this isn't really a solution but more just something to try that would be interesting if it did work, but if your mouse is USB, try using a USB->PS2 adaptor and using it via the PS2 socket. Sure, you'll lose all the nice drivers and functions, but as I say, it'd be interesting just to see if it made a difference.
Hello, the mouse I am using is some basic wireless notebook mouse and thus I can not change the DPI. I am sure it is under 1000 though. I can use the same mouse on Unreal and other computers just fine though. Also, as mentioned, its a laptop. Unplugging the mouse and using the touch pad does not change anything. Pretty much any other game (including later Unreals/Unreal Tournaments as well as old ones like Quake, etc) works fine so its funny that I run into problems with just the original Unreal series.

I have the same problem with UT99, also with Deus Ex 1 (same engine). In Deus Ex it usualy helped to press Esc to go to menu, then click "Continue game" and sliding stopped. It does not work in UT99 however. I'm running it on notebook with Win 7 64bit.

You can try to deactivate VSync and see what happens, i think you are experiencing input lag related issues.
If it is your problem, you can disable it in UnrealTournament.ini and force it through Nvidia Control Panel or Catalyst Control Panel, you´ll have VSync working but no input lag.
I hope you can fix it!!
This was happening in UT from the very beginning when I bought it 10 years ago.
What sometime helps is to press Alt-Tab to switch to desktop and then back to game. The moving stops until the next round.
I have found out that if you use OpenGL (show all devices) it works better. No more mouse lag but a bit of graphical lag, on a 980ti. Not the best option but it works acceptable.
