Depends really. I've always had more fun playing UT, even in single player against bots, considering the sheer magnitude of options and flexibility the game provides you to tailor every match.

Of course, if you're not into arena style firefights, then the choice is easy. Despite the huge backstory, interesting locales, and individual combatant biographies, the entire story of UT can basically be stripped out and you'd likely never even realize it was supposed to be there.

Definitely both. Unreal is ofcourse the single player geared of the two. But there are single player mods for Unreal Tournament, even Unreal in UT99 if you have Unreal.

For single-player, definitely Unreal Gold. It's got one of the most memorable (and LONG) single-player campaigns I've ever played, it's still in my top 5 FPS titles of all time.
