Hi everyone,

I got UG a while ago, and I just recently tried it, and noticed something odd going on with the castle intro: first time I boot the game it's fine, with all the fancy D3D reflections and light/fire effects that I remember from back in the days, but if I quit and restart, then all the special effects are gone (not sure if everywhere in the game or just from the intro).
If I quit and launch it again, they reappear. Then disappear, reappear and so on, at each restart. It's really weird, and I'm wondering if it's somehow normal or if I messed up with the graphics settings a bit too much... I don't think I did, as I literally only changed video mode to D3D 32bit and screen resolution to 1080p.

On top of that, I'd like to know whether or not to install this 277i patch I read about everywhere, as I would like to replay Unreal as vanilla as possible (just for nostalgia reasons, really). One thing I'd love to be able to do, is enabling my XBOX One controller, which seems to be an impossible task, using the default settings.
On the whole, the game appears to be running great on my machine: as I mentioned, I could already set it to 1080p, it's super smooth at 144hz, and 16:9 look genuine (not stretched or distorted). What I mean is, the GOG release seems to allow me to set the game just like the patch is supposed to do. What am I missing here?

Please note I'm a complete rookie, and that would be my first attempt to patch/mod anything, so a link to an easy to follow guide would come super appreciated.

Thanks in advance! ^_-

You can try the Direct3D 10 renderer:

It won't look exactly like vanilla Unreal, but at least it will work consistently.
