When I first installed Unreal 2 from GOG, I noticed that the intro started with a psychedelic fly by and them, just after going thorough a white light all the middle of screen turns white with little lines on the borders.
After watching a video of the intro on youtube, I noticed that after that light the fly by is meant to continue displaying the logos of the involved developers and publishers until displaying the game's logo at the end.
It seems that they altered it to remove the reference to Atari (even though the company's name can still be seen in various places in the game) since it "crashes into white" just before the part where the Atari logo should be displayed.
So, anyone here experienced a similar effect or could it be just a bug in my game?
Ps.: Talking about bugs, the game will occasionally crash without any apparent cause and the splash screen that appears over the desktop during the game boot will often be distorted.

The intro sounds exactly the same as I had, though I never knew it to be any different. Once all those swirly coloured lines have faded the screen becomes white with a sort of sound wave shown over it. The video then continues doing that (forever?) and then you have the menu options.
I only had the game crash once, and that was on completing a level before the cutscene between levels showed up. It was a crash straight to desktop, no errors, nothing. I saved often enough though so it wasn't an issue and it never happened again.
As for the splash screen, I never noticed it to be distorted so I can't help you there.

Here's the complete intro on YouTube:

Crashes happened quite a few times in the outer area of that covered by a large monster world and them they kind of ceased. I don't remember other specific crashes, but I'm sure I had a few more in separate places.
The splash screen distortion is just an incorrect rendering of any of the various possible splash screens where it renders the middle of image in the borders... like if you cut the image in two and glued it together on the outer borders.

The monster covered world is where I had my one and only Unreal 2 crash, but it was as it was loading the end of level cutscene for me.
As for the splash screen, I'm sure I'd have noticed the effect you are decribing there, but I don't remember seeing much of my splash screen as it went to full screen very quickly, it was just the rest of the loading that was slow for me.
Epic are self publishing the Unreal games through GOG. So I'd imagine that the intro was edited to remove any incorrect info (about Atari being the publisher).
They also used Midway to publish the Anthology (which I have), so I'd imagine that my version is similarly edited. The bottom line is that Atari have no rights to the license.
