I'm going back and installing older games I used to play. I've worked by way through the Quake series and no I'm on the Unreal series and I'm stuck on Unreal2 -XMP, the on-line multiplayer part of Unreal2.

The problem I'm having is that there appear to be no more working master servers.

At https://bobsunrealcoop.wordpress.com/2012/03/25/how-to-host-a-unreal-server-the-semi-ultimate-guide/.

Based on the comments found at https://www.gog.com/forum/unreal_series/unreal_2_intro_issue/?search=xmp from GreatEmerald, it may be pointless to search for U2XMP servers or even establish one myself.

Advice?

The official master server was shut down over a decade ago, killing XMP at the time. I don't know if a decent alternative was ever created. A shame, really. XMP in its prime was a lot of fun.
Yes, it was an unique experience at the time but much like a lot of other fan mods the official server got unpopulated and no longer worth the running price. Of course it isn't the same but the Onslaught mode and some Assault maps focusing on the same gameplay.
