Just picked up the Unreal games from the weekend promo and I'm having trouble installing the game. When I open the installer, I see the splash screen and it says I have to change the install path because there is an illegal character in the install path and I have to click options to change the install. The splash screen shows the install path as:

C:\GOG Games\Unreal 2 ?The awakening Special Edition

I know the problem is the question mark in the install path so when I change the install path, click install then the installer gives me a window saying illegal characters are not allowed in the install path. I tried deleting the whole field and retyped the install path but I still get the same error message that the following characters are not allowed in the install path, even where there are none.

I'm positive the problem is due to my operating system being non-unicode, I'm running a simplified Chinese version of Windows 7 Home. I checked the support link on GoG for solutions but the only thing there is a suggestion to run the installer through Microsoft's AppLocale tool but I wasn't able to install it. Got an error message saying another program was needed but never stated what program (thanks for being so clear there Microsoft).

I really have no idea what to do now. Has anyone else running a no unicode OS had this problem? Any ideas for fixes?

You can try to use underscores or dashes instead of spaces.
C:\GOG_Games\Unreal_2_The awakening Special Edition

Or just install it to C:\GOG Games\Unreal 2 (and delete the ?The awakening Special Edition ).

Or, just remove spaces all together, like C:\GOGGames\Unreal2

Thanks for the reply

I did try what you said but the installer still insists that there is an illegal character in the install path. Even tried installing to C:\Unreal2 but just kept getting the same error message.

If no one knows a work around, looks like I'll have to contact support.
I've tried to find a solution, but I'm stumped.

It's alright, I appreciate the reply regardless. I'll just contact support after exams are over.
