I know there is an installer to play UT99 natively on linux, is there a way to play Unreal Gold on Linux without using Wine ?

I don't think Unreal was ever released for Linux, so this is probably unlikely. However, it does run flawlessly in Wine using the Direct3D renderer.

I just gave it a quick try. First i installed it via wine and applied the 227i patch, where it asked me if i wanted to install the linux files

Apparently you can then just copy the directory out of wine and run UnrealLinux.bin
But it produces an error about a missing lib file. And didn't have to time to fiddle with it more.

Icculus made a port of different Unreal versions to Linux. On his homepage he provides an installer for Linux.

Unfortunaltelly the forum does not allow me to post a correct link, so you need to replace the https_ with https: below.

you can find the lin_convenience_libs.tar.bz2 in the Help folder containing most of the common 32-bit libs needed to run Unreal on Linux. (libstdc++/gcc_s from there should be avoided on something like Arch Linux however)
That or try the Lutris installer scripts.
