Although GOG has a policy of ignoring Windows XP, a number of games sold here still work on it making their "minimum system requirements" section unreliable. Unfortunately the Ultimate ADOM Site does not appear to list system requirements at all, nor does the official forum.

There are references online to older versions (0.9.x) of Ultimate ADOM running on Windows XP, so my question is: will the current release do so? (there seems little in terms of graphics or gameplay to require later versions).
Even if it hypothetically does run on Windows XP, do you think any developer would in their breath, go out of their way to support a software platform that's 20 years old?

That is quite literally, a different computer paradigm ago. 3DFX was still in use when Windows XP was new.

Thankfully, you don't actually have to worry about Ultimate ADOM, as it appears to have landed with a sickly thud, as you can tell from the swiftness of replies around this forum.
The developers are too busy fighting climate change to reply, sorry bud.

And you made the effort to post all that for far less...

Plenty of developers do still offer XP support - it's not exactly difficult to ensure a program written to run under XP continues to run under XP. It is later versions of Windows that create the bigger support burden, particularly those that are subject to significant updates. XP being out of support means that it is no longer changing.

Examples? Stellar Tactics (still in development and recently updated). Tales of Maj'Eyal (you may have heard of that one).

Never mind games - how about utilities? Well - there's WinRAR, Total Commander, Drive Snapshot, WinImage to quote a few. And several anti-virus vendors are also still offering WinXP support (disclaimer: I've not run anti-virus software for several years as I rely on other non-signature based security software).

And that pretty much says it all. It's ironic that Thomas was able to provide and support original ADOM for free but cannot repeat that feat for a commercial release. And it's also telling that GOG have discounted so-called Ultimate ADOM by more than the original ADOM (80% off to US$5.99 compared to 50% off to US$7.49) in their current sale.
