Mild spoilers

I started Ultima Underworld a few days ago and I've made it through level 2 and a bit into 3. I have had two strange issues that i'm not sure are bugs or just the way the game works.

one: I gave my sword to Shak to repair, he said 3 gold and 9 minutes, so i waited a while, spoke to him again and never saw any option to get my sword back. So i left him alone and figured i'd explore. I came back a few hours later and he's still not saying anything about my sword. What's the right way to get your repaired items back?

two: I popped up to level 1 to pick something up and the map is reset to blank. Is that supposed to happen?

[edit] i took some time to explore the first floor again and it seems that everything is reset, not just the map. The monsters are back, and everyone speaks to me as if for the first time.

I'm calling this a bug - has anyone had this issue before?

Have you installed the game to the Program Files folder, by any chance?

Negative. I have a separate drive for games, an SSD.

For reference, is there an issue with installing to PF?

Windows 7 is notorious for not allowing anything to touch Program Files, which could explain the game failing to save. I'm not aware of any other causes for this issue, unfortunately.
