Hi
Thank you for reading.

I know "z" shows status of characters but it doesn't show their HP. I need to know how badly wounded my players are in battles. It could be that I am not recognizing one of the functions as HP.

Could anyone help please? I looked everywhere and searched web, but can't find answer. It's probably a really dumb question for most gamers. Forgive me! as I am new to this haha.

Hits is hit points. If you play using Exult you have the option of health and mana bars at the bottom of the screen for all party members.

Hi
Thanks
I bought complete version from this website. I don't think I am playing Exult version though.. :(
Exult is a third-party game engine that runs using the original data files (which is what the GoG installation provides - the original game in a DOSbox wrapper).

Since this is also likely to be a question: In U7, a character's max health/"hits" is equal to their strength score as shown on the stats panel.
Exult is not included in the GOG release; GOG releases are always as close to the original games as possible, using 3rd part tools and mods only if it's necessary for compatibility. To play in Exult on OS X download Exult, then find your "Mac version", right-click -> Show Package Contents -> Contents -> Resources -> Ultima VII.boxer (or something like that) -> right-click -> Show Package Contents -> and take the folder with the game (C The Black Gate.harddisk or something like that). Copy the contents of that folder to /Library/Application Support/Exult/blackgate (you will need admin rights)

Now you should be able to launch Exult and play Ultima VII. The same procedure applies to Ultima VII Part 2 as well. Keep in mind that /Library refers to the global Library on your hard drive, not ~/Library, the user Library. If you use the above path you don't have to edit and config files, so that's the way to go.

When you download Exult use always the current snapshot, it says "unstable", but it's more stable than the supposedly stable version (which is why it has been removed). There is also an all-in-one sound pack, you don't need it technically, but it adds nicer music and background sound effects like bird chirping and water fountains making noises. I would get it, it's not that big and really adds to the game. Make sure you turn on digital music and audio SFX in the audio options in game.

And as always: Read the f'ing manual (RTFM). The Exult manual is very well written and explains things very well even to people who never played Ultima before or used such a port.
