Now that the first two Ultima trilogies have been released, I am hoping that both parts of Ultima VII won't be far behind. I have never played any of the Ultima games, but I have done some research and Ultima VII is supposed to be an excellent game (and along with Ultima IV the favorite of creator Richard Garriott). Ultima VII seems like a great Ultima to cut my teeth on, so to speak, before deciding if I want to play the earlier ones. I do understand VII it uses an unusual method of memory management, and I hope this doesn't cause a problem for GOG getting to run on modern PCs using Doxbox.

As far as Ultima VIII and IX are concerned, I am sure others will disagree but I hope GOG does not hold up Ultima VII to make VIII and IX ready at the same time. I don't speak for others, but I am not very interested in those games and would rather go back and play Ultima IV instead. The information I have seen makes it seem like Ultima 8 was mediocre and Ultima 9 was terrible. I am sure those games have their fans and maybe they are actually very good in their own right, but they don't seem like they are something I would get enjoyment from.
Serpent Isle (Ultima VII part 2) has always been my favourite. It's more linear than Black Gate, but I think that makes for a tighter plot. They really both are gems, and I can't wait to see them on GOG so more people can enjoy them.

Ultima VIII had problems and definitely didn't live up to its predecessor, but I think it was still an enjoyable game. A patch fixed some of the really dumb stuff, like awful platformer-style jumping parts (which might not have been so bad, if movement wasn't so finicky). Ultima IX kind of mangled the plot, and was a really unfortunate way to end the series.
I wonder if the reason they haven't released U7 yet, is because of the feedback on the lack of expansions in the other EA releases. I'd still be eager if they released U7 without the expansions, but it would be bittersweet.

Or are they saving it for a bigger punch?

Ultima VII's expansions were developed in-house (as far as I know) so licensing shouldn't be a problem this time around.

One possible explanation is that they are planning to release VII+VIII+IX as one pack but are having problems with IX due to it being a Windows game.

Easy solution to that, simply don't release IX so that I can have an easier time pretending that it never happened. ;)
Man yes Ultima VII is powerful game. Soo good. sooo nice game. There good port called Exult but I'm not sure now some new bug problem there...

Can't wait see Ultima 7 in GOG and don't you forget Ultima VII part 2. I'm so confessed never play into Ultima VII part 2 only on the arrival...
I'd like to see the two 'Worlds of Ultima' games, too: Savage Empires and Martian Dreams.

They're not really part of the main series, but they use the Ultima VI engine so they mostly play the same. Both are packed with humour and references and it would be great to have them available again.
True Savage Empires and Martian Dreams - very good
We're in the middle of another EA run. Everyone SHOUT OUT for Ultima VII.
The timing is perfect.
A new run of EA is here.
Skyrim, the most interactive RPG since VII has just been released.
People need to know the roots of Skyrim and its type of interactive free type RPG, and UVII was the first major game to do this.
In Skyrim you can find a job and do things other than adventuring for money, such as smithing and cooking. UVII was the first to allow the player to get a job baking bread. Now is the perfect time to put it back out. Let's all hope.
Savage Empire and Martian Dreams may be great and all (just like the first two trilogies), but I never played them. By the same token, I've never played a lot of the Bioware Infinity Game Engine games, exept BG1 and 2, but soon after I found them in GOG I downloaded just about every D&D game available. All it wook was me finding BG1... please sell Ultima VII and all expansions. More likely than not, it will peak all buyers interest in the rest of the series. We get an awesome game and you guys get out $$$. It's a win-win!
Well, guess what -- as of today your wish has been granted. 8^)
Thank you all for shouting out. It seems to have worked. I hope your throats are ok.
