Heh... I've been diggin' U6 lately... further than ever before in my youthful days.
Just annoyed about the dungeons. I really missed an automap in the last place.
I can't see a logic to use, getting lost a lot.
Even when I need to revisit a dungeon's bottom lair, I can't bloody find it too easily the second time,
Is there any hope to change this?
Do people draw the maps on paper/ computer documents?
Is there some spell to help on this?
Dammit, I love the game, but somehow my mind is getting overheated.
The puzzles seem a lot easier though, they were almost impossible at the age of 16-17 to me :)

edit: just remembered the gems, i've got about 20 of them now, were they made for this purpose... never used them this time...

At the time it was common to draw your own maps, often using graph paper. There are a couple of spells that can help you to find your way around, giving an overhead view of the immediate area.
You could always try this

thanks both!!

That program seems nice. Maybe I'll get into that more.
U6 is a heavy trip, man!
The view area of Ultima VI is really small, making it easy to get lost. I played the game in Nuvie with the new Ultima VII-like interface where the map covers the entire screen and it is much more pleasant. i didn't even need a map to be able to find my way around the dungeons. You can find Nuvie here:

I played through the entire game in Nuvie. There might still be some minor things missing, but the improvements are worth it.

worth a try I guess.
Also its kinda energy-consuming to do the dungeon-crawling in real life during the night, when the brain isn't exactly in the sharpest of shapes :)
Dunny why, but I love adventuring during night, especially on holidays.

I keep getting lost and going through same routes sometimes, but at least the random encounters keep adding to my gold and supplies occasionally... and the extra exp and leveling ups are making the fighting quite easy so that's fun :)
