Hello everybody

I finished Ultima IV some months ago and imported my character into Ultima V. Now I wonder: Mantras are still the same as in Ultima IV. Can I just go to shrines and meditate with the mantras I know from Ultima IV or do I have to "relearn" them? In other words: does it "break" the game or something if I just go to the shrines and use the mantras I learned in Ultima IV without having talked to anybody about them in Ultima V?

Yes, you don't need to get the mantras again.

Also, that quest is technically optional in Ultima 5. It gives your main character (only) some nice stat boots, gives you karma (reduces the XP loss on death), and an important clue at the end, but there's no actual flag the game uses to gate progress.

Thank you very much for your help. I'm at the begining of the game questwise (haven't done anything except farming money from trolls like crazy to purchase four magic axes for my party). I think I'll try some of the shrine quests first (especially as my first rescue mission in the Underworld went terribly wrong). Thanks again!

Good luck with the Underworld! I found exploring the Underworld one of the most painful, grindy parts of Ultima V. Bring lotsa peer gems and/ore reagents for casting Peer if you're not going to cheat!
