OK, here you go:

I placed the blackrock fragment in the box

BTW, after looking at your savegame file, I noticed a few things:

(1) Your defense is LOW. With 28 STR, you can equip full plate armor no problem. Unfortunately, you're carrying too much stuff in your inventory for that to happen, which probably explains why you only have leather armor and don't even have a shield. (FYI, there is a spell that you can cast that repairs armor...one of the scrolls that you dropped in the EARTH arena of the Coliseum reveals a hint as to what this spell is)
(2) Things that you can get rid of:
- FOOD - You have a fishing pole, you don't need to carry more than one food item (e.g., fish, wafer) around with you anywhere.
- JEWELS/CROWNS/GOLD - you destroyed Killorn Keep, which is the only place you can really spend gold. You don't need to keep any valuables anymore. (FYI, you didn't need to destroy the Keep...you could have just entered the room, used the staff, and then left.)
- EXTRA WEAPONS - you only need one weapon. The extras you can put in "storage"
- KEYS - You have a keyring. All the keys can go in there, and they'll all be organized chronologically for you
- CANDLES - With your magic/mana, you can cast Daylight no problem. Or you can grab an oil lamp and maybe 2 oil flasks (which can be used to refill a lamp) and you're good to go. I'm unsure where you misplaced the light spheres, but you could have used those and recharged them back in Talorus by placing it on the pedastal and flipping the switch. (BTW, there's a way to free that world from the Guardian so that it's not filled with hostile Vorz anymore)
(3) Inventory Management - In most Ultima games, Inventory Management is key. Backpacks hold the most stuff and weigh the least. In the ice world, where the dead adventurers are, you can find 4 backpacks, which is all you really need. The rest, you can store in bags.
- You can have one bag of valuables to spend in Killkorn Keep
- One bag of weapons/armor that are useful
- One bag of potions
- One bag of wands
- One bag of food
- One bag of useful items that might be good quest items

I usually keep those bags situated about the gem, and fill up the appropriate bag after I complete a world. That way, my character can have full plate mail and about 20-30 stones worth of free space which I can use to pick up stuff when I'm in a world. I can also strategically place them around the gem so it's easy for me to "find" which facet is the Goblin Tower vs. which facet is the Magic Tower. It's easy to get lost without putting things down around the gem.

BTW, you're still going to need to do a few things to finish the game. It looks like you never talked to Praecor Loth, despite defeating all of the liches, and you'll need to figure out a way to be "strong" enough to break that Blackrock Gem after you've merged the last fragment. Enjoy, and good luck!

Out of curiosity, where was it?

Ah ok ! Thanks, Yes, did have the silver coloured shield but it eventually broke. I think I am carrying too much food hence the weight problem. I switched to light armour to avoid running out of food. I though I talked to him after I defeated the three! Oh well will go back and check.
Thanks people! I have now completed the game.

Bookwyrm627: Out of curiosity, where was it?
Oh, I didn't end up finding it.

I played his game a lil' and looked at the usual suspects...places that I usually dropped a bunch of stuff when I played in the past. I couldn't find the gem.

So I just followed PraecorLoth970's original advice and found one of my old savegames that was just before the Scintillus Academy. I speedran it and got the gem, then I ran to Nystul and dropped the gem in front of him and saved my game. Then I copied nightwalker83's PLAYER.DAT file into that directory, had his player pick up the gem and saved THAT game, then copied that PLAYER.DAT file back into his savegame directory and sent that to him.

Oh nice to see that suggestion worked out. I looked at several editors I found online and none could edit the UW2 savegames well enough. Hank's editor actually had a very small bug that I had to fix, but then it worked fine, although I had to alter a lump of wax into the gem.

would any of the editors serve the purpose of just finding the location of the gem in the world?
I found only two level editors, Hank's one, that can also edit save files, and another one by Alistair Brow (found it on Bootstrike). Krokot's editor only supports UW1 and it's closed source. The rest were save game editors, so no map viewing.

Of the two ones I used, neither really could easily find the gem. There's no built-in method to search for stuff, and you'd have to go object by object, or tile by tile, in search of the gem. However, I suppose it could be relatively easy to implement some sort of search function in Hank's, since it's open source, but Windows only. I think it has a bug where you can't modify the level (UW2) because it'd modify the wrong part of the buffer, so you'd only use it for finding stuff, not moving that somewhere.

Yeah, I didn't realize that the savegame files could be separated and mixed and matched that way. I used it to create a cheat file with a 28/15/18 Druid at the very beginning of the game that has all of the best armor/weapons IMO (Firedoom axe, Fireproof leather vest, Plate Helmet, leggings, boots, gloves, and shield of Unsurpassed Toughness). It may be fun to play with that character sometime, just for the heck of it.

Now that I write this, maybe I'll create a savegame at the beginning of both UW1 and UW2, with a backpack filled with 30 Wands of Identification for my future self to play. I must admit, I found Identification the most frustrating part of both games, and I really disliked that LORE/IDENTIFICATION grind, particularly when I found out that you can fail at identifying an item even with 30 points in Lore.

It would certainly be fun to parse through the editors one day. I'd love to know if that one key inside the haunt chest in the sewers is supposed to open...if it opens anything at all. Maybe there's a hidden door or a chest somewhere in the game that I've never come across. There are probably parts of the areas that can't be mapped (e.g., the Scintillus Vault, the Etherial World) that I've never explored.
