I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but every time I try to jump the very short crevasse in the secret shrine on Level 1, its as if I bounce off an invisible barrier, and then fall into the water below.

I've definitely opened the door, before trying to jump across but for whatever reason its as if it doesn't want me to pass...

Any ideas?
You won't be able to jump through the door itself, so you need to aim your jump to land on the small shelf just in front of it. This can take some practice, and you may find that keyboard movement vs mouse movement makes a difference.

Also, watch your head: if you're using a Jump spell or an item that provides a similar effect, the increased length of the jump is matched by an increased height, which means you might not be able to make a jump where there's limited clearance, since you'll hit the ceiling and start falling. (There's at least one other important jump on level 1 where this is definitely the case.) You need to use unenhanced jumps in these places.

Pretty sure I'm unenhanced.

Playing a tinker.
It's a difficult jump. You need to jump low, and no so high that you hit the ceiling.
And don't be too fast. The Avatar bounces off walls as if he was made from rubber and if you are running too fast you bounce right back. There is no invisible barier, just a very tricky jump.
And if you just can't pull it off, the shrine on level 2 is very easily accessible.
