I saw comments on Reddit, and now I would like some info as to what was said to been fixed.

U9 basic install with two of original patches was almost unplayable and has a very bad save corruption issue.

There are a number of fan patches and projects such as:

http://www.ultimaaiera.com/category/ultima9/u9-patches/

http://www.forgottenworld.de/

But GOG seems to have this patched to a different version that has been previous known, just wondering what if anything been fixed?

One thing I know for sure is that we have it patched with the 1.19f patch and we are using nglide with a 30 FPS cap to fix scripting problems that occur when you try to cleanse the various shrines.
sounds good I have the boxed version at home was thinking of getting the digital version.

Mostly i"m scared of that damn save bug

Install the game outside the Program Files folder and run it as admin. Also: save often and in different slots as the old RPG adage goes :D.
Also the current patch for this is off as the last patch was:

Ultima 9 v1.19G

See

Patch 1.19f.01 - First Forgotten World patch for Ultima IX. This one fixes the music bugs in Valoria, Skara Brae, and Minoc. Requires patch 1.19f.

Patch 1.19g - Second Forgotten World patch for Ultima IX. This one adds Mariah and Jaana to Moonglow and Yew and includes the music fix of the first patch. Requires patch 1.19f.
i believe 1.19f was the last 'official' patch (even though it was not officially released, allegedly it was made by an ex-dev of U9), the 1.19f01 and 1.19g patches are names used by the Forgotten World mod, which i think adds some content and such so isn't technically just a patch
also, the fan-made dialogue rewrite/monsters/economy patches probably only work with 1.19f, as I think they havent been updated in a decade or so

The Forgotten World team are working on a new patch which will correct numerous bugs, including the "floating rune" bug. It's in beta now; expect a release soon.

I'll also be posting, on the Ultima Codex this evening, a list of settings changes that can be made to eliminate most/all of the crashing issues.

No, Forgotten World and Beautiful Britannia have content mods, but the 1.19f.01 and the 1.19G patch (you only need the second one) only fix bugs that weren't fixed in the latest official patch: namely having the proper work in positive Valoria, Skara Brae and Minoc, and having Mariah and Jaana appear after restoration as they appear.

I see no reason why they wouldn't work with GOG's version though it requires restarting the game.

They also have a 1.19H patch incoming that fixes the dissapearing rune/sigil issues and some .ini fix that solve crashes issues in D3D.

my only hangup currently is that I don't have a way to run the u9name.exe from the dialogue patch, that lets you set your name. its an old 16 bit exe so no dice trying to run it on a 64bit OS. so I guess I'll have to deal with the default name haha

also, thanks for the info on the patch-only forgotten worlds update. I checked and they dont overwrite any files from the dialogue/monster/economy patches so they should behave nicely together (in theory)

oh wait update, it looks like a portable copy of dosbox ( http://portableapps.com/apps/games/dosbox_portable ) will do the trick for u9name.exe
kennethkully - thanks for the info you always seem to track me down ;)

I learned cyber-stalking from the best!

Anyhow...the patch I mentioned above was just released this morning: FORGOTTEN WORLD RELEASES PATCH 1.19H FOR ULTIMA 9

This may also be of interest to some: FORGOTTEN WORLD: SETTINGS CHANGES TO IMPROVE ULTIMA 9′S PERFORMANCE (AND REDUCE CRASHING)
I have a question. Whenever I tried to boot up Ultima IX, the game itself doesn't boot up, it just goes to a u9.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close box. I don't know whether its due to the computer not meeting the tech requirements for the game to run or due to the game itself in its state. Does anyone know what to do about that?

I had the same problem. I fixed it by changing from glide to direct3d.

Open Options.ini and search for

Game Rasterizer=3

Change this to:

Game Rasterizer=2

Save the file, and try running it. Should work, I hope!
i finished this game last year. there was a major bug where after cleansing the shrine the item would not drop to the ground. it was stuck mid air very high.

i had to stack 20-30 potions to be able to reach that high :) i had a screenshot of this, i wish i could find it.
