Hello.
I having trouble with raising two virtues.

Sacrifice - you raise this by giving money to beggers? I have given to all of them that I have found. Is there a certain amount you should give?

Humility - How do you raise this?

I believe giving all your money to beggars for Sacrifice only works in the NES version. (There are *major* differences between the NES version and other versions, so guides for the NES version are likely not to be accurate for other versions, like the GOG versions.)

To raise Sacrifice, talk to the healer when you have at least 400 HP (or you can pay to get healed if you're at least level 4), and you'll be asked if you want to give blood. Do so, and your Sacrifice will improve. You may need to go to the world map and take some steps after each blood donation, and note that doing this makes you lose 100 HP, so you'll need to be healed afterwords.

Humility is gained by answering NPC questions a certain way, In other words, do not boast; if you are asked if you are [insert positive trait], say no, for example.

Details can be found at (note that this spoils the mantras and rune locations):

Thanks. Alright. I am level 3 right now so I guess I continue to explore the dungeon of deciet to get to the next level.
Damn it. I have boasted alot :D The seer say I have none humility. Guess when I find one character that ask me about a positive trait I can spam "no" there to raise the trait? Or do I have to leave town and enter again

But giving money to the poor doesnt do anything? Nothing what I could tell.

I am playing on the C64.

No, to get to the next level you need to talk to Lord British (in Castle Brittania) and you will level up.

I wouldn't really recommend exploring dungeons at such a low level, particularly since you get quest experience that will quickly give you some level ups. Also, the number of characters you can have in your party is equal to your level, so you are going to need to level up to get everyone. With that said, I find that too many party members make things slower, especially since the number of enemies per battle scales with your party size (except in dungeon rooms).

I'm not sure exactly, but I think you nee to eat least go to another map, either by leaving town or going to the other floor of the castle.

If you give at least 1 gold to a beggar, your Compassion will improve, though there may be some sort of cooldown to prevent repeating this from giving you further bonuses. (You probably at least need to leave town for the cooldown to clear.)

I recommend giving 1 gold to any beggars you happen to pass by rather than trying to farm all the virtue at once. (In fact, I recommend this approach for all the virtues, possibly excepting some advanced strategies to gain an early advantage at the expense of having to make up for it later.)

I should have known that you level up att Lord british. It was the same in Ultima 1? I jumped from level 3 to 6 :)
Yes compassion. Of course. I knew that. I already got a avatarhood in that virtue.

I am playing this blind and I having a really good time.

I believe that means you unfortunately missed out on 2 levels of stat boosts.

Fear not, however, as you can also boost your stats by touching the orbs in the dungeons. It might be a little painful, but perhaps it's reasonable to suffer a little bit of temporary pain for permanent benefit.

(By "a little", I actually mean a lot, but at least there's no real penalty for dying in this game, except in case of a total party kill, but there's cases where it makes sense to deathwarp even with that penalty.)

Well that sucks. Would have been good if the game told me in someway that I could level up or at least have it written in the manual what experience points I need.

I found two orbs in the deciet dungeon on level 3. Just tried one. Got +2 intelligence and died with that character.
But I am on my way to talk to Nigel in the place which are on the same island as Moonglow. Cant remember the name just now. He knew about the spell Recall. If that spell does what I think it does it wont be that expensive to touch the orbs :D

Thanks alot. You have saved me from alot of frustration I think :)

Only +2? It's +5 in all the versions I've played. Note that which stats are boosted depends on the dungeon you're in, and the more stats that are boosted, the more damage you take.

The orbs will respawn if you leave the dungeon and come back.

The XP requirements grow by powers of 2:
100
200
400
800
1600
3200
6400
(8 is the cap.)

Recall does indeed do what you think it does. Note that the revived character will have 0 HP, so you may need to heal the character if you aren't going to immediately touch an orb with that character.

Note that, if your last character is killed by the orb, you will still keep the stat boosts. (On party wipe, food and gold are set to 200 (even if lower)

As for the effects of stats (non-NES, as usual):
* STR: Affects damage. (I believe this is added to the weapon's attack power, so stronger weapons don't need as much strength to do good damage, and for the most powerful melee weapon (which you have to do something special to get) it may not even matter.)
* DEX: Affects chance to hit. Don't know whether this is true for all non-NES versions, but at least in the Sega Master System version, 40 DEX seems to ensure that all your attacks hit.
* INT: Affects MP. I believe that the most expensive spell, Recall, costs 40 MP to cast. Note that some classes get a better multiplier than others, and the Fighter and Shepherd get none.

If you want, I could tell you about the best way to farm stats from orbs.

Might remember it wrong. It was three evenings ago I had that orb adventure. Since then I tried to finish som of the Avatarhood.

Thanks for the info. I might ask later for best way to farm stats. Right now I will carry on and see what happens :)
