I entered Despise (my first dungeon) and the first room straight ahead put me into fighting mode. There were a number of monsters and chests (some were Mimics). After I killed the monsters I tried to "G"et the chests but they do not respond. How do I open them and get the gold?

Make sure that you are standing on top of the chest first.
