SOLVED THE PROBLEM BY RESTARTING MY COMPUTER AND REINSTALLING AND RETRYING
I've been trying to install Ultima II's upgrade patch from the Ultima wiki. I downloaded the upgrade, but then noticed that I needed an extra file to make it work on DOSbox (Specifically, the u2cfg.exe needs DPMI to work, which DosBox doesn't provide). The link to that was dead, but luckily I found another version, which I don't know works or not, because of the following problem: I try to follow the instructions in the readme file, but every time I try to launch one of the .exe's a windows messege pops up saying "Windows can't run this program". From browsing the forums on multiple sites, I've concluded that the version of "Ultima II Upgrade" is 16 bit, something that isn't supported on windows 8, which I have. I've tried to use Pix's Ultima Patcher, but whenever I extract the files, the .exe for the patcher disappears, and windows won't allow me to reopen it. What gives?
