I find myself unable to exit the Covetous Mine. As I'm walking out the Avatar stops, and can no longer move, jump, etc. It's right at the last part where you can see outside. I have a save-game if anyone wants to look at it.

Edit: This happened many times and restarting the game does not help.

I've seen a thread in which someone had a similar problem, I believe: it is possible that there's a spider's web blacking your way? (If it's not visible, then maybe its glitched?)

In short, what happens if you go to the blockage and then hack away with your sword, before then attempting to proceed?

(See this old thread: https://www.gog.com/forum/ultima_series/ultima_9_stuck_in_buccaneers_den )

Now, you do say that you're more restricted than I'd expect for a web--but it seems worth trying, anyway.
Thanks. i looked at the link, but I'm having a completely different problem. When I reach a certain point on my way out of the mine, the Avatar freezes and no amount of walking, jumping or climbing in any direction moves the character. if it is the webs, then I am completely stuck within them like a cocooned fly.
After some experimentation, I came to the following conclusions:
1. If I let Julia say her proximity speech, I can't get out.
2. If I grab the (edit) glyph without her speaking at all and go straight out, I can.
3. If I grab the (edit) glyph without her speaking then get the crystal ball, I can't get out.
Edit: 4. If I get the crystal ball and go straight out, I can't.

Perhaps the problem is proximity speeches in the mine: Julia's and the lich's.
Anyone have any ideas?

Unfortunately, I don't, for my part. :/

All that I can say is that I don't recall having such happen in my previous playthroughs--which doesn't help you much!

I will see if I can summon further help, however!
I don't suppose anyone is still working on this. If there is, can I marks this DEV? Otherwise I cannot continue the game, at least without a major rewind. :(

I still have the save-game if anyone wants to see.

I've contacted the Ultima fan-club on Twitter; we'll see if they have any help for you!

Someone there asks: Can you use the cheat codes to fly out?

I watched a walkthrough video and found another way out, even though that was not entirely working correctly either.

If anyone come across this issue in the future where they cannot leave through the main entrance, follow these instructions:

1. Go to level 2 and in the first room go straight until you get to a room with gratings in the floor.
2. Climb over the rock to get the powder keg and place the keg on the grate with the sounds coming from it.
3. Use the keg, jump down the hole and kill the giant skeleton.
4. Go down the hole in this room.
5. Use the powder keg here on the grate and jump in the water.
6. Swim down and through the hole under water to where the bubbles are
7. SAVE a NEW game.
8. Continue swimming outside. My problem was here where the map changes and gets me stuck in the walls, hence the save.

Good luck all.
Ah, I'm glad that you found a way out! ^_^
