I found a treasure map in Despise which has an X on a beach southwest of Yew. I went there and couldn't find anything so I looked up treasure maps and identified the map I have as the one labeled "Pirate Treasure Map" on this webpage:

If I stand at the exact coordinates it gives there is a chest on the beach, but it's empty.

I'm guessing the pirate treasure map is a red herring but wanted to confirm before giving up that it's not a case of being in the wrong location despite the directions given.

that's weird. i could have sworn there was some gold in that chest. i'll have to go back and look again.

you can fight the pirates and brigands in the nearby tents and collect some loot though.

i'll get back to you on the chest in the beach.....

Yeah, cleared out the mobs in the tents. I actually found them on the way to Yew before I was looking for the X on the map.

The whole thing just felt underwhelming for a treasure map so I thought maybe I was missing something.

i just went back and the chest was empty. oh well.

don't give up though! Keegan in Bucs den has a couple of maps that lead to ACTUAL treasure!

you need to find the goodies one at a time though. we can talk about that when you go back to bucs den.

I got the 1st map from him and couldn't find the well by Samhayne's house, but I found the cannon on the 2nd map and got the bracelets of fury. That was very satisfying because I walked/swam around the entire coastline of Bucc Den on my first visit and I found the cave with the bracelets, but couldn't figure out how to get in since it was boarded up. Blasting through the boards with a cannon was a nice touch.

The well by Samhayne's house is up on a hill and sort of hidden by foliage. There isn't very much there so if you want to skip it you won't miss much.
