Hello

The floating Plattforms at entrance of the Mountain King Hall (MK) behind the magic bridge don’t move side to side. There is no jumping-match to the last platform, so I can’t get to the King.

Ist that a bug or my fault?

Greetings

The default version of Ultima 8 has the patch installed, which simplified the jumping puzzles. I don't even know where to find an unpatched version of Ultima 8, but in the original version, every time you jumped you would jump a certain distance, and would need to delicately position and time your jumps to overcome obstacles.

The patched version simplifies this process quite a bit. Platforms do not move, and your mouse auto-targets the destination where you will be jumping to. If you click both mouse buttons simultaneously, the Avatar will jump towards the pointer of where your mouse is located (unless it's too far or too high, at which point the Avatar will shake his head). So, just position your mouse in the middle of the platform you want to jump to, click both mouse buttons simultaneously, and squat--jump your way to success.

Note that if you click and *hold* the mouse, you will also automatically reach up and grab a ledge if you are in danger of falling. This can be useful if you are jumping towards a platform, and come up *just* short (or land on something a bit slippery and slide backwards). As you fall, the Avatar may reach up and grab the platform, and you can then climb up by letting go of a mouse button and then clicking it again (I forget if it's the right or the left mouse button...it's been too long).

Also, note that there are some parts of the Mountain King path where you're required to jump to...not so intuitive places. If I remember correctly, one place is a one-way jump to an island in the middle of nowhere, and when you jump to it, you automatically teleport to the next location. Another is a one-way jump from a platform to a river edge at a locked door. If you didn't already pick up the key earlier, then you're kind of stuck unless you can figure out a way to jump back and climb up a few ledges right above the water...which is risky as you can easily fall into the water.

Good luck!
