when i try to start it it says:

Please remove your expanded memory manager before running ultima 7

it sounds like ems is set to true. If you're not running the gog config, type eme=false in DOSBox before starting Ultima VII. If you are using gog, edit the .conf file where you installed U7 so that ems=false.
