I have the spellbook from the early game found in Lord British's store room and I just found another spell book in Destard which has a few spells my other one doesn't.

Is there any way to merge the spell books together?

Not without cheating.

If you're playing with my UltimaHacks patch, you can press 'b' repeatedly to open all held spellbooks, and the Cast-by-Key feature allows you to cast any spell from any held spellbook directly (without first opening any of them) if you know the runes of the spell.
