I've been pretty much everywhere and I haven't found a single mage would will join the party. Are there any who exist?

I found Jaana, hoping she'd be a mage like in Ultima V but it seemed like she was a fighter as here stats screen said 0/0 magic.

Thanks much for any suggestions anyone has.

No. Everyone who can join the party (except for the Avatar themself) is either a Warrior (0 MP) or a bard (INT/2 MP).

I have no idea why Jaana isn't a mage in this game, or why they made both Mariah and Johne not recruitable. It doesn't help that there's no explanation at all why Jaana can no longer use magic.

Personally, I wouldn't be against a mod that would make Jaana a mage and give her a spellbook with some lower level spells (but not Help) and a reagent pouch, but I don't know how to make such a mod.

You can get non-casters to use magic by using the Enchant spell to place a charge on a staff, and giving the staff to another character who can then use it.

(Bizarre fact: The charges are objects. If you cast Animate on a charged staff, its charges will drop to the ground, and you can see them (but they can't be picked up).)

That sure is odd, thanks for confirming! Now at least I can stop looking.
