Anyone know how to load a save from within the game? Without having to close the game, restart it & choose "journey onwards"

You can't, re-loading hadn't been invented yet at the time. Well, at least not for Ultima. You will have to quit DOSBox and start the game again. The upgrade patch adds a key shortcut for quitting the game (alt + x if i remember correctly), so you can return to the DOS prompt. It doesn't really save much time, but at least it's there.

The upgrade patch also adds a reload save game command (Alt-R).
