I was wondering, I always wanted to play and finish ultima franchises because I love rpg games and what i understand is that they were very deep rpg games the problem is they have also got that harcore old school rpg feeling i just wondering are those games too dirffecult and can you give me some advice how to get trough them, wich program you use to make maps and notes on?
For maps and notes, I used this ancient artifact called graph paper combined with a spiral notebook!

The good thing about Ultima 1-3 is that they are fairly short games on modern hardware. One of the reasons they took so long in the old days was simply the time it took to load areas and process turns, now those parts are instantaneous. I played Ultima 1 a few years back through DosBox and I finished it in about 8 hours.

I wouldn't say these games are super hard by any means thought. About the only thing I find about them that is really 'hard core' is that they basically let you go where you want, whenever you want. So you can find yourself wandering into an area you aren't ready for and get slaughtered. Save early and save often.
oh well only going to play 4 to 7 then if im able
Let me add to what I wrote.

I did do one thing my last go through of Ultima IV (which could be done in 1-3). When I went into a town or level of a dungeon, I would use a gem and take a screenshot so I didn't have to draw them by hand.

If doing that (or taking notes by hand) is going to turn you off, 4 and 5 won't be much better and 6 and 7 might not either.

I would argue that VI and VII are marginally better about dungeon mapping, since by then Origin had finally abandoned the first-person perspective in favor of 2D overhead maps that were, on the whole, much easier to navigate. The smaller viewable area of VI may still present a problem to newbie players, however, but it should still be easier to find your way around than in the old-style dungeons.
thanks i will start with 6 then :) to get used to it.
