I recently purchased the Ultima series on GOG, and learned that Ultima 1 is quite a bit different than other RPGs. Grinding for hit points is necessary. And every time you die you have to grind those hit points again.

For a game written in 1980, it's not that bad, but removing the repetitive grinding after each death certainly makes the game better.

I died in a dungeon after getting lost, and decided that rather than spending another 45 minutes gaining my health back that I would just alter the saved game file.

I wrote a simple Go program that will alter the saved game files. It lets you modify your stats/hp/food/gold.
Apparently I can't post links... fair enough. You can find the program on github.com my username is "caleb" and the project is named "ultima1_save_editor"

I figured since this is probably the only forum of people that are talking about Ultima 1, this would be a good place to post this program. I didn't see anything in the posting FAQ that would discourage this, but if it's against the rules, that's cool, I'jl just go back to my BBC :)

On to Ultima II!
