Topic.
I went about it this way:
1. Installed Ultima 4 via GOG galaxy.
2. Downloaded XU4 and installed it.
3. Downloaded the ultima 4 upgrade and copied the zip file into the XU4 folder without extracting it
4. Copied that ultima 4 install folder to the XU4 folder and renamed it to "ultima4" without the space in between

Now when I try to start u4.exe I get a small window showing a black screen and nothing else. After about half a minute it goes to "program" not responding and does the usual windows crash stuff or the window simply goes away. Never get any error message or anything from XU4.

My system is a laptop with windows10, no dedicated graphics card and everything pretty much as standard. Just use it to run older games while away from home. Which I figured a low-resource-intensive U4 would be perfect for.

-> Don't copy game data and delete "ultima4" folder.
Create "ultima4" game data compress(.zip) file and that file move into the xu4 folder.

That did the trick!
Thank you.
