The map empties when I load the savefile and when I walk up/down stairs. The notes disappear at times aswell.. I'd try all the graphics tricks, but it just doesn't seem relevant to this problem.

Never heard of that problem.
Maybe a Vista or Windows 7 problem? Insalling outside the Program Files folder seems to solve lots of problems for Vista/W7 users...

Is this happening on every level or just with certain levels or level transitions?

Is the map somehow getting set to the wrong 'page' when you do these things?

Are you getting any other error messages?

Where are you normally keeping the map in your inventory?

Does this happen when you start a new game, or only with your current one?

I can't see this being a graphics problem (as far as Dosbox settings/etc). The most likely cause is a corrupt game install, a corrupt save game, or something to do with file permissions (as Petrus suggested).

I reinstalled outside program files, and it seems to work now (except that notes disappear if it quit by crashing, but I can live with that)
