Hello,
I've been in Moonshade and gave the stockings to Torissio (the bastard just took them without giving a reward). Now I've read that I shouldn't have done that, but I can't find the exact reason why not. Now I've played further - I'm on Monk Island at the moment - and I don't really want to go back at the beginning of Moonshade, so my question is: Will there be a serious problem because I gave the stockings to Torissio instead of Stefano?

edit: and a second question comes up too: On Monk Island, Braccus tells me that the "tides are gone" and it will be many days until they'll return. Therefore I cannot go picking the mandrake roots near the swamp. So I'm waiting, sleeping, exploring the island, eating up all my provisions - and the old bum still tells me the same thing... is there something I have to accomplish tu be able to pick the Mandrake roots - or do I have to wait out the next days?

It doesn't really matter what happens to the stockings. You'll still get your item back eventually.

The tides should just be a matter of killing time. Keep trying to talk to him at different times of the day and night. It shouldn't actually take days.
Thank you.
That's really strange... the guy still says the same sentence about the tides and that I have to wait many days (and believe me, I've waited many days) - but then I went to the swamp out of curiosity and guess what I found? Three mandrake roots! I brought them to Fedabilio and got the Spellbook. I just hope the game isn't broken now or something...
SI was a lot more rushed than BG, so you get these little oddities. Since you got the spellbook, I wouldn't worry.
Indeed there are many many problems with this game. At least for me it seems...
My next - this time really serious - problem:
I'm in the Mountains of Freedom - Mountains of Bugdom would be more appropriate imho: As I enter the room of Lorthondo, the guy supposed to be killed by him (to be transformed in the dragon) isn't there, so I'm completely stuck. I've tried to reload the game and fought the magician (the one who flees through the teleporter and should be in front of Lorthondo) again and it's still the same. I've tried the whole procedure three times now.
The whole passage seems to be terribly bugged for me. Sometimes even the magician didn't teleport himself away, just standing there after the fight.
Can you help me to get out there please?

I remember having that same issue with the same NPC. Sorry I can't remember how I resolved it :( . But at least this I can confirm that it's fixable.

Usually sleeping for a while (12 hours) helps with NPC-not-there bugs like this.

Unfortunately sleeping doesn't help - I've slept for 24 hours in Stefano's dirty, bugridden bed - alas, to no avail! Lorthondro is still his lonely self, waiting for the bear-mage who never arrived... :( Something hasn't triggered in the game, but I have no clue where and why (especially as the mage teleported himself away correctly in most of my tries).

I died in the encounter with the mage and later again and the monks revived me both times and sent me back (hell, I've died a lot in this dungeon!), but I don't think that should cause such a problem?

Is there a simple way to - let's say - just teleport myself in the other room where the game expects me to continue after the dragon encounter? Or is that even more dangerous for the game's stability?

Ok, the whole shit just get's better and better: I reloaded a savegame right at the beginning of the Mountains of Freedom-dungeon - right after I've killed the automaton and looted his room.
I followed the correct path in the labyrinth without taking anything up into my inventory, went straight to the mage - but guess what happened? This time, the bastard didn't transform itself into the bear he is supposed to, but instead into a chicken and runs away in the teleporter without a fight! I've tried the encounter three times - every single time he transformed himself into the chicken... What is going on here?
I went forward, met Stefano for the fifth time and visited my old pal Lorthondro again - but still no kneeling mage and still I'm completely stuck! I'm really going crazy in this terribly bugged dungeon - but that's its intended purpose after all, isn't it? Oh man... :(

edt: Ok, I give up... really. Now I reloaded a savegame even before the sexscene and the trial - I entered the dungeon, killed the automaton, used the invisibility ring and ran through the dungeon right to the mage - the guy seems to have found his love for chickens, as he AGAIN transforms himself into a chicken instead of a bear... then I continue my run, take Stefano on the ride - and end up in front of Lorthondro again, with no way to continue...

That's really infuriating... if anybody knows a way to solve this rather serious dead end-bug, I'd really appreciate it!

It sounds like it's safe to use cheat mode to skip that sequence. Here's an extract from a walkthrough that I found:

Teleport to the next passage, use the yellow key on the left door. You should see a sequence involving Lorthondo turning his minion to a skeletal dragon. Bug Note: Some people may encounter a bug here where you enter the room, stand in front of Lorthondo (no kneeling guy) and the game hangs. Try restoring and use the cheat mode to teleport to the room. If there is a guy kneeling to Lorthondo, then everything's OK. If not, use the cheat to get into the room to get the key. (Just skip the skeletal dragon sequence)
You can find some info on using the cheat mode here:
https://tcrf.net/Ultima_VII_Part_Two:_Serpent_Isle/Cheat_Mode

You might need to edit the dosbox conf file to run serpent.exe with cheat mode enabled.
Hey,
thanks for the help. I teleported myself directly into the right room where I'm supposed to end after the dragon encounter. I just hope that doesn't break the game at another point...
Thanks!

edit: I got out of the terrible hellhole of a dungeon at last! Everything else went fine, no further problems. But when I was teleported back to Filbercios house, Bucia and the longhaired dude from the shop are still in the court room, but will return to their shop. Strangely, they don't react specially on my return - they act and talk just like before the trial. Please tell me that that's normal?

Something I observed is that if you die, to "leave monk island" will sometimes mess the whole thing up: in the encounter with Lorthondro I got killed before I had the chance to talk to the black sword - after being resurrected by the monks, I was teleported somwhere in the western woods of Moonshade instead of back to the dungeon...

Wow I've never heard of that sequence being so broken. Lucky you, I guess.

You may want to be a little careful teleporting around. It's possible you might skip over a flag that should be set as you walk over it. Better to hackmove the doors out of the way if you can't get the key for some reason.
Lucky me indeed. Just before the dungeon, I shamelessly stole the two chests from Pothos, dragged them out of his shop and plundered everything in it with a mean grin on my face - maybe that was the rightful punishment for my immorality. ;)

I only used the teleport to move two steps over. I'll never ever use the cheat mode again if not for such serious bugs. Now I'm back in Monitor, had a great time in the mysterious Lost City (reminded me strangely on the Lost City in Thief). I hope the game works stable now.

Some (hopefully very last) questions:

1. Is it normal that Filbercio isn't in the house anymore when I return from the Mountains of Freedom?

2. And is it normal nobody reacts in a special manner to my return (except for Gustacio of being talkative now)? Especially Bucia and Flindo behave as if nothing ever happened - although they betrayed me at the trial...

3. The serpent staff: I read that there is a problem if you don't walk into the room - but I read also, that there is a problem if you don't pick the darn thing up correctly... as I can't find it explained: What means "picking up correctly"? For reasons of
security I left the staff untouched in the furnace until later.

4. Ensorcio at the Sleeping Bull is a talking chicken now... wtf?!?

1. Filbercio is off in his lovenest somewhere with Frigidazzi, so it's normal not to be able to find him.

2. Pretty much normal.

3. To be sure of getting it 'properly', I stand right on top of the staff's location ingame when I pick it up. The egg trigger seems to have distance as an important factor in triggering it, so being too far away will cause the bug.

4. That sounds like a bug.
