I started a game of Ultima IV, but i'm a bit afraid of getting too far into the game as my PC has been loading a bit slow (got my PC around 2009) when accessing files and i'm afraid of a hard drive failure wiping my saved games.
Is it possible to make a backup of my Ultima IV game save file and if so where is the file? Also, when importing a save file from Ultima IV into Ultimas V and VI, does the game make a separate import file that can be backed up as well?
I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3 as admin and I have the games installed in the default Program Files if that will help with answers, thanks in advance.

For U4 the four save files are: PARTY.SAV, OUTMONST.SAV, MONSTERS.SAV, DNGMAP.SAV. I believe only PARTY.SAV is needed to import to U5 & 6.

One more question, would using the upgrade patches make any of these saves incompatible or unusable should I have to transfer them to a new PC with a new OS?
i started game ultima iv when i save the game and come back later to play more its not save and starts me from the begin.

Check the readme files of the patches. I asked myself the same question when upgrading U2 recently - the readme stated that the upgrade is compatible with previous saved games and indeed, I could continue my game without any issues.

Edit: Aaah, crap. Sorry, didn't see that your post is so old. I was confused because of the gravedigging done by the previous poster. :P
