In the last few days I've played through Ultima 8 again using GoG Galaxy. Started it in German (because that's what I played decades ago) and all went well. That is, until now. The following things cause freezes, crash the game or lock my character in place:

- Speaking to any Titan in the Ethereal plane either locks me (Pyros summons one demon, the other vanishes, Pyros freezes, camera stays locked on Pyros, Demon slowly claws me to death since I can't act) or locks me when I try to use the blackrock fragment (Stratos; using the fragment freezes the game)
- The ghost armor quest locks me when I click on the gravestone to get the key
- I can't even start the game in English anymore; the DOSBox window just closes

What gives? Does any of you guys know what the cause might be and what I could do to get the game to work properly? I'm kind of convinced it has something to do with GoG Galaxy, but I'm not sure...

I thought I had the game installed, but apparently I do not anymore, so I'll be firing shots in the dark.

Have you tried deleting the game's config file and running the game? It should be in the root folder, but I have no idea what it would be called. Make backups!
If you can manage to get in-game, is there an option to disable voice overs? If so, disable it and see what happens?

Other than that I have no idea, and you're probably best off contacting GOG support.

Hmm, have you tried just uninstalling and reinstalling the game?

You can backup your savegames before uninstalling and reinstalling the game by copying the data in the Ultima 8\cloud_saves\SAVEGAME directory.

I just wiped my savegames (I have them backed up elsewhere), and started a new game in German, and was able to advance to get the key from the ghost no problem. I didn't go through the game through the Ethereal Plane though.

If you can start a new game and get the key from the ghost, you might just have a corrupted savegame.

I've already figured that the savegames might be corrupt since, when I removed the cloud save folder, the English game would start again. I'm just wondering if this is somehow due to cloud save messing up the savegames.

I'll probably restart without GoG Galaxy and will just play it in English. To me, it doesn't make any difference anyway.
